The ViaDerm system, based on RF-MicroChannel Technology is an ideal solution for
systemic delivery of polypeptides and other large biotech molecules that can
currently be delivered only via injection, which achieves a peak plasma profile
for the drug. Other formulations will enable a continuous sustained release
profile for several hours.
In addition, the ViaDerm platform will enable increased dose rates, improved
compliance, and controlled delivery of therapeutic doses of small molecules
having different physicochemical nature. This system provides the optimal
delivery method for molecules that suffer from the drawbacks of a
peak-and-valley profile, associated with multiple drug administrations per day.
In the preventative medicine and public health arena, ViaDerm offers a
cost-effective, painless and safe solution for enhanced immunization programs.
Transdermal immunization with ViaDerm has the potential to offer a better immune
response because it targets the immunologically rich milieu of the skin.
For local regional and topical applications, the ViaDerm platform can enhance
penetration of anti-inflammatory agents, local anesthetics and analgesics. It
will also enable a much more efficient penetration of various topical drugs to
their target site in various layers of the skin.
The ViaDerm system can be used with a wide range of drug molecules. The
company is investigating various compounds, with different molecular-sizes and
physicochemical characteristics, at the proof of concept level. Pre-clinical and
clinical trials have demonstrated therapeutic drug delivery, excellent dose
efficiency, clear advantages vis à vis existing delivery methods and the special
formulations needed, if at all, for each of the compounds studied. This
"library" of compounds, ready to be offered to the pharmaceutical industry for
use in transdermal delivery via ViaDerm, is a valuable asset, and represents a
vast development potential.
